Hublot Big Bang 301.SM.1770.SM Review

if you are tired of men’s watches that can’t hold up to real life, give the Hublot Big Bang 301.SM.1770.SM a look. This stunningly masculine stainless steel and carbon fiber watch is not only well-designed, but very sport-oriented, and rugged as well. Though clearly a luxury watch, the chosen materials are meant to withstand real world conditions. Incorporating rough and tumble elements of stainless steel, carbon fiber, ceramics and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, it should stand up to regular wear without losing any style.
Here are the details on this handsome timepiece:
- Stainless steel case (44 mm diameter by 14.5 mm thick)
- Fixed bezel in finished stainless steel
- Black carbon fiber dial with luminous hour markings
- Ceramic and brushed steel bracelet closes with a push-button clasp
- Scratch resistant sapphire crystal
- Water-resistant to 100 m or 330 feet
These solid elements are embellished by finer design details such as the iconic “H” type screws on the bezel, and black Kevlar inserts on the case edge, crown, and chronograph buttons. The second hand also has an “H” counter-weight logo. In addition to the time function, the watch includes a chronograph to measure seconds, 30-minute intervals, and 12-hour intervals. There is also a small date indicator between the four and five o’clock positions. Similar Hublot products include the Big Bang 301.SM.1770.RX, which has a two-tone black and gray carbon fiber dial in a zig-zag pattern, and a rubber strap. The dial on the RX model is perhaps more distinctive, but a little busier and harder to read. Another similar model to consider is the 301.SM.1770.GR, which has a ceramic dial and leather band.
Pros: The sporty, masculine look of the watch is pleasing to the eye and easy to read. Though packed with extra functions, the dial face is clean and uncluttered. Made with durable materials, this watch will withstand regular wear even though it has the styling of a luxury watch. Heading straight from the gym to an after work social function? No need to change your watch – it is suitable for both.
Cons: You’re going to have to pay for all of this quality. The 301.SM.1770.SM retails for $18,300. If you are in the market for a luxury watch this price shouldn’t be too much of a sticker shock, but it’s something to weigh carefully. Given the careful choice of durable materials, the investment will last a long time.
For a watch that looks and is strong, the Hublot Big Bang series, and the 301.SM.1770.SM model in particular are worth consideration.
